Photos - the best of the bunch

The test photos I got weren't the best, but out of all of them these are the better ones.

Despite the fact my actor looks like she's going to sneeze, it's still a good head and shoulders shot.


In thia shot I told her to give me a 'mean look'.


I like this one, because although the background is falling out from behind her the pose is still pretty good.

Why I chose my location

the way I've chosen to do my background is pretty versatile. As long as I have a white sheet and good lighting I can take my photos anywhere, however in my test shots i had some issues with the sheet, It was hard to get the right lighting for the shot using it. It might be easier for me to just use a plain wall in the future.
I was planning on having a plain white background as most the Kerrang! covers have white backgrounds and having a plain one would be easier to edit.

For these photos I had some trouble with the lighting inside meaning we had to shoot outside, which unfortunately didn't work too well. I had a white sheet behind my actors to give it a plain background - unfortunately it didn't work as well as I'd hoped.

Actor Pose

A lot of magazine covers with only a single actor tend to be 'action shots' to a small degree - having the actor doing something, in this case screaming, taking down a hood, and angrily removing a jacket.

For my magazine I'm planning on having my actor in similar poses for the cover photo, as well as making use of props.

Location Planning

I was planning on getting some test shots at the weekend but my actor was unavailable, however I was able to find this:

The graffiti gives off a rock/rebellious vibe which would fit in with my music magazine.
The style model I'm using, Kerrang!, tends to have simple plain black/white backgrounds on their front covers so I don't think it'd be a good cover, it might be better suited to be a double page spread or contains page.

Test Photo Planning

I plan on taking some photos over the coming weekend with my actor, however it may be difficult finding a time where both of us are available

Props Plan

For my props I am only going to use a guitar as having too many may clutter up the photo. I plan on seeing the School's music department to borrow a guitar when i need it.

Location

The location I originally had in mind isn't available anymore but that doesn't matter too much as I just need a white background. I'm thinking of hanging up a white sheet behind my actor and touching it up in editing.

Outfit Planning

This is roughly the outfit I want my actor to where when it comes to taking photos as it fits the style of an artist that would feature in Kerrang!.
